Hydrogen Cluster Finland in Poland to advance the Baltic Sea region’s hydrogen market

Hydrogen Cluster Finland took part in the Baltic Energy Conference – Cooperation for a Resilient Future, a major conference promoting energy cooperation in the Baltic Sea region, held in Warsaw, Poland, on Thursday, 3 September 2026.

ORLEN, one of Europe’s leading energy companies, organised the conference to advance regional energy cooperation and highlight the Baltic Sea region’s potential to lead the European Union’s clean transition, strengthen energy independence and support a secure and resilient energy system.

During the event, the participants also signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation among energy companies in the Baltic Sea region. Fourteen energy companies and organisations from nine countries joined the new Baltic Energy Initiative.

The conference also addressed the importance of protecting critical infrastructure, particularly in the Baltic Sea region, as well as the role of regional infrastructure and storage capacity in developing a broader hydrogen market.

The Baltic Sea region has significant potential as a producer of renewable energy and hydrogen, and as a market for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives. At the same time, the geopolitical situation makes the region particularly important from the perspectives of energy security and independence, societal resilience, and critical infrastructure protection.

Chair of the Board Herkko Plit represented Hydrogen Cluster Finland in Poland:  “It is extremely welcome that Poland is taking an increasingly active role in developing the Baltic Sea region’s hydrogen market. We have recently seen positive market-creating decisions in Germany. Poland’s more active role is good news for Finnish hydrogen projects. The conference reinforced our shared view and underlined the importance of regional cooperation.”
